We collect information you provide directly: account details (name, email), vehicle information (VIN, make, model, mileage), photos you upload for diagnosis, repair estimates and invoices, and location data when you search for mechanics (only with your permission, only while the app is in use).
We use your information to provide AI-powered vehicle diagnosis, compare your repair estimates against fair market rates, connect you with nearby mechanics, and — with your explicit opt-in consent — contribute anonymized pricing data to our community transparency engine.
We never sell your personal data. To anyone. Ever.
All data is stored in encrypted cloud storage with row-level security — meaning only your account can access your data, enforced at the database level, not just at the application level. Photos are stored in private buckets inaccessible to other users. API calls to our AI provider include only the data necessary for diagnosis and exclude personally identifiable information.
If you opt in, anonymized repair pricing — shop name, repair type, total cost, and general city — may be shared with the ShopFax community to improve price fairness scores. Your name, email, vehicle VIN, and personal details are never included in shared data. You can opt out at any time in Settings.
These providers process data only as necessary to provide their services and are bound by their own privacy policies.
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time. Export your full vehicle history from Settings → Account → Export Data. Delete your account and all associated data permanently from Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. Deletion is processed within 30 days.
ShopFax is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at privacy@shopfax.ai and we will delete it promptly.
We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notification and by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of ShopFax after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

Always have a qualified mechanic physically inspect your vehicle before undertaking any repair. ShopFax is not responsible for decisions made based on AI diagnosis results.
Price fairness scores, labor estimates, and parts pricing are based on publicly available data and community-submitted invoices. These are estimates only and do not constitute a guarantee of actual repair costs. Prices vary significantly by region, shop, vehicle condition, and market fluctuations.
Mechanics listed in ShopFax are not endorsed by ShopFax. Ratings and fairness scores are based on user-submitted data. ShopFax does not verify the licenses, certifications, insurance, or quality of any listed mechanic or shop. Always exercise your own judgment when selecting a repair shop.
By opting in to contribute invoice data, you grant ShopFax a non-exclusive, worldwide license to use, display, and distribute that anonymized information. You represent that all submitted data is accurate and relates to genuine transactions. Submitting false data is a violation of these Terms.
ShopFax participates in affiliate programs with parts retailers. When you purchase parts through links in the app, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This does not influence our diagnostic recommendations or pricing analysis.
You may not use ShopFax to: submit false or fraudulent repair data; impersonate mechanics, shops, or other users; scrape or harvest data from the platform; reverse engineer the AI systems; or use the service for any illegal purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ShopFax and its officers, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including any vehicle repair decisions made based on AI diagnosis or pricing estimates.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States. Disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration in Austin, Texas, under AAA rules.
